Woburn House: Sleep summer storm
19/12/11 || gk
German duo Woburn House had an impressive album a couple of years ago with “Monstrous Manoeuvres in the Mushroom Maze” which mixed sludge, post rock and doom to come up with an album of amazing atmosphere and depth. 2 years on, the band has ditched all of the sludge and gone in a predominantly post rock direction. The songs are laid back and have a melancholic atmosphere to them. The change in direction works for the most part. There isn’t a lot of variation in the album with all the songs sounding morose and melancholic with a lot of acoustic and clean guitars and sparse music but it does help in creating atmosphere. I get the feeling this album will get better with every listen and it’s a bit of a slow grower. Fans of the Zeitgeister collective and anyone who likes stuff like Antimatter or singer songwriters like Jeffrey Luck Lucas will do well to check this out.
A melancholic 7,5/10.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
